Having been more of a computer cyclist on and off for many years I decided to get into cycling more seriously as a hobby. Read many reviews about clipless pedals and friends told me that clipless pedals are a must. Decided to go for it and bought the M520 MTB SPD pedals along with a pair of Shimano MT20D shoes. WOW!!!!! Should have done this years ago. The pedals were dead easy to install and setting up the cleats on the shoes was relatively easy. One mistake I made was not to slacken off the release mechanism on the pedal before setting up the shoes with only slightly tightened cleats. The result was a clipless moment (falling off) as the cleat spun on the shoe as the release mechanism was too tight and I couldn't release the shoe. Have never had clipless pedals before so I cannot compare to any others, but as a first time buy I would say they are a must. Went out this morning for a long ride to get used to clipping in and out and it was a joy to be out on my bike. Clipping in and out was very easy and I was supprised as to how wasy it is to clip in. (Thought that with such a small cleat you would have to fiddle arround to get the pedal and cleat lined up - not the case was just like putting your foot into the normal pedal possition and click, your in!) My friend said that once you have clipless pedals you will feel more connected with your bike - how right he was. If you are wondering whether to go clipless or not my advice is YES!!
