Nicky Aldridge - 18/10/2009 When my oldest son was 2 he got a likeabike jumper for his birthday - without the brake - and it has been superb! Ridden along woodland tracks, on beaches etc. Fantastic build and great fun. He\'s now 5 and still using it occasionally, even though he now has a proper big bike with pedals. Now my twins are 2.5 and I wanted to get them something similar, but balked at paying £150 TWICE! So, it was with some trepidation that I bought a pink zooom for my daughter. I ordered the bike on Saturday, it arrived on Wednesday - 3 emails and a phone call from Petra Cycles - excellent service. Bike was well packaged. It arrived needing the front wheel and handlebar fixing on - some basic instructions on how to do this would have been useful (for those of us who have never done more than pump up a tyre!) - but it didn\'t take long. However, it took quite a while to adjust the brake so that it didn\'t rub. I do have some concerns about this brake, but if it proves too annoying I\'ll simply remove it.
Comparing the zooom and likeabike: wheel size, and, distance between seat and handlebars are the same. Lowest seat position is a cm or 2 lower on the zooom. Zooom feels heavier. Handlebars on the zooom can be adjusted slightly to bring them closer to the rider - the likeabike handlebar is in a fixed position. The zooom handlebar is narrower gauge, better for little hands? The zooom brake comes as standard, unlike the other, and the cable passes down inside the frame of the bike to the back wheel. The zooom brake can be adjusted for the reach of the childs hands. The build quality of the zooom is very good - just the same as a proper bike. The likeabike does have a steering limiter and suspension, which the zooom does not. Overall, I am very impressed with the zooom, and, for me, the \'extras\' on the likeabike are not worth a price tag double that of the zooom. It also means I can buy another zooom for my daughters twin brother - rather than him having a rather battered hand-me-down. I\'ll let you know after xmas how they get on riding their bikes. |
