- Who are you?
Petra Cycles is now a well established Christian run bicycle store. We started out in 2005 in Oxted, Surrey UK.
The Team:
Kobus: Petra Cycles is the brain child of our MD & Founder Kobus, a hard working South African who has always dreamt of running a bike shop. He works long hours
to provide Petra Cycles with a unique level of customer service.
Tom: Tom is our packer, scooter builder, and salesman. He customises scooters for us, advises young people on the best parts and upgrades for their scooter. He also packs all our internet orders and when he has time is in the shop front looking after customers.
Peter: Has come a long way in the last few months, after just finishing a five year stint in the institution that is Edinburgh University. Turning down high paid jobs in the city and a life of financial bliss he decided to work full time on growing and realizing the dream of Petra Cycles and the other Petra Brands. He is our webmaster, so blame him if you have any problems.
Eric: Is Peter's brother and manages our databases, and product feeds, with over 35,000 items he does a great programming job and also has a big time job in the City.
Chris: Our mechanic and resident techie, Chris knows all there is to know and has years of experience with big South African names and in the racing circuits, this guy can change parts on a bike lightening fast!
We are small enough to give you personal attention and our secret technology is advanced enough to do much of the work that other companies take teams of people to do, which keeps our prices low. In essence we are friendly, reliable, dependable, resourceful, and most of all genuinely really interested in you!

- I haven't heard back from you guys what's up?
We aim to respond to e-mails within 3 hours however sometimes on busy days this is not possible and we kindly ask you to sit tight. If you have not heard back from us in 24 hours it is possible that your e-mail failed to get through, please do resend or use our contact form.
However 9 out of 10 times we have already replied but a those helpful but sometimes over zealous Spam Filters block our address or send it to your Junk Mail, please therefore check your Junk Mail carefully and to be safe add sales@petracycles.co.uk to your address book. Don't worry we never send out unwanted newsletters or pass your information to a third party. It annoys us as much as it annoys you!
- Where is my order? / Has my order been despatch yet?
First of all please check your account page to see the progress of your order and any comments made by us.
If you order has not been despatched yet, before you get in touch, please check the despatch times of your items on the product pages as some items take a while to despatch.
We do send out e-mails on despatch. If there is a problem we will contact you, but sometimes e-mails do not get through so best check your account page for comments.
Most UK dispatches will arrive within 1-3 working days from the date we despatch the order.
Worldwide despatches 4-10 days on standards services
If you order has not arrived within 14 days and we have not been in contact to let you know of a delay. Then please do get in touch and we will do our best to help you.
- I want to return something
Petra Cycles is fully compliant with UK distance selling regulations and is happy to accept returns of unwanted goods during the 14 day cooling off period and issue a refund. However there are some conditions; you must contact us by e-mail (sales@petracycles.co.uk) within the 14 days of receipt, you must send the goods back to us within 14 days. The goods must be unopened and undamaged (i.e re-sellable) Opened goods may be subject to a £5 or 15% restocking fee which ever is higher, damaged or used goods may not be accepted. Petra Cycles cannot refund your for any postage costs you incur returning the goods to us and you must make sure they are returned properly packaged. - My goods are faulty? help!
Don't worry, all our products come with a 12 month manufacturers guarantee (sometimes longer) Just get in touch with us and we will take care of everything. Simply use the Contact Us page to send us a message. Don't forget your order id number it speeds things up.
(Please be prepared that we must receive the faulty goods before we can despatch replacements. Please do contact us prior to returning faulty goods so that we can arrange for new goods to be sent as soon as the faulty ones arrive)
- Do you ship to the USA? How much does it cost? Do I have to pay tax?
Yes we do ship to the USA, The cost of shipping is based on weight and calculated during the checkout process before payment. You can use the Shipping Estimator in the Basket to work out your shipping cost before you go to checkout.
Exchange rates. Petra Cycles trades in Sterling only (GBP) and transactions from overseas are exchanged automatically by your card vendor. We currently do not offer an estimated USD cost but the current exchanges rates average between $1.8 - $2.1 (USD) to £1 (GBP)
Using your American card abroad normally incurs a fee of 1-3% of the transaction but this is up to your card vendor and we are unable to tell you what they will charge for using your card. Please contact your card vendor or bank.
(Petra Cycles does not levy any charges for using your card.)
Sales Tax (VAT): Exports are VAT free This means you will receive 20% tax deduction at the point of sale.

- I am not sure what part / item I need help!
We are here to help and have designed our site to offer as much information as possible. Normally a lot of information can be found using the links on the items page. For example Shimano parts all have a link to the Tech Doc website which gives all the info you will ever need! (We can't beat it ourselves!) Other brands often have their own website which can normally be found by clicking on the Brand logo on the page. Sometimes we are unable to link to a Brand website, in which case please get in touch using the Contact Us page.
- How do I find a part number I am looking for?
Simple just type it into the search box and hit search and hey presto!
- Stock information in detail.
Our stock system is now live and 95% accurate it will it tell you the stocking situation for all items and their despatch times.
Where we can we provide an expected date if an item is out of stock, or if it has been discontinued and replaced by another product. (If this is the case simply copy the part number into the search box! and hit search!)

If an item has an expected date that part of your order will be automatically back ordered and despatched as soon as it becomes available. If there are any stock issues after you place your order we will notify you personally to discuss further options.

- What Does Pre-Order and Back-Order mean?
Pre-Order: If an item has an expected date then please place your order and we will send it as soon as it is ready!
Pre-ordering will secure your allocation and waiting until the day may lead to disappointment!
Please note that expected dates are estimates.
Back-Order: If you see this message, you can still place an order, however we have no information when the next batch of stock will come in. (Don't hold your breath it can take a few weeks.) But we will despatch it when as soon as it becomes available. Sometimes older items are discontinued and we work hard to clear these from our system.
- Why does it take 1-4 days to despatch goods of they are marked "Available"? / Why do you have "Despatch Times"?
We are only a small high street shop in Oxted. But we have big roots we source 1000's of uncommonly sold product and 35,0000 products in total which are sold on a "Just In Time" basis. "Despatch Times", are in place so you know what to expect from us and how long it takes for your order to be processed through our supply networks into the shop, packed and despatched by us at our local post office. (We support our local Post Office 100%)
Here is a little tip for you! If you want to save a day then simply order your goods before 9.30 am (thats when we order from our suppliers!) We are then 90% of the time able to ship your goods next working day!
If you need something in a rush we can ship goods next day special delivery and this option is available on checkout but we cannot as much as we would love to get the goods to our shop any quicker then next day.
Another tip!! Goods listed as 0-1 day are in stock with us and can be despatched same working day if you order before 3 pm (That's when we take our goods to the despatch centre.)
Sometimes our sophisticated supply network can go wrong and this may lead to a delay of a day or two but we will always notify you if this is happens.
- How will my goods be shipped?
In order to keep our costs and prices low we will choose the best option for your order however we do not compromise speed unless we have no choice!
Most goods go 1st Class Royal Mail and valuable orders will go Signed For.
If you choose next day delivery we will send your order via Special Delivery or Courier.
Some items are so heavy e.g locks that Royal Mail will not send them first class but Parcel Post which can take 3 days or Parcel Force for larger items which takes 48 hours. (These times are maximums and goods can arrive sooner)
International orders will usually go airmail but we cannot make guarantees on how long it will take to get to to you.
- I am having a problem with my card payment help!
First up, please check your browser is PC/Mac Internet Explorer, Safari or Firefox Mozilla, other browsers are not support for security reasons.
Any further problems then follow the on-screen error messages until the problem is resolved.
If this does not resolve the issue please copy and paste the message into the Contact Us page message box and send us a note of what you have been doing. Please DO NOT send ANY card details as this is not a secure method of payment and we will not be able to process your order.
- When do you take payment?
We only take payments once your goods have been despatched.
We do this for a number of reasons: Firstly, we would never want to take money from you unless we can definitely for fill your order.
Secondly, it also allows both you and us time to check, change, add or remove items from you order.
Finally our system performs a number of security checks to prevent card fraud.
Please note that you may notice a "Shadow" on your card if your order has not been completed for sometime (i.e if you pre-order goods) This means your card provider has reserved funds for your transaction but non have been taken. If you choose to cancel your order the "Shadow may remain on your account for some days after while it clears. Also if you order exceeds 28 days waiting time your transaction may expire and we may have to contact you again to obtain your card details, as we do not hold these during the transaction.
- I need to exchange my goods what do I do
We are here to help so before purchasing make sure you get the right part for the right job. There is nothing more disappointing then getting the goods you need for the weekend ride just to have the wrong part ruining it! Firstly we advise you check the Technical Documents link and Brand Websites before you purchase and if you are still unsure get in touch and we will do our best to sort it out for you.
If you do want to exchange your goods then you will need to contact us first using the Contact Us page. You will then need to return the goods with a note enclosed containing your name and order number along with a brief description of the problem and part needed.
We may have to charge a restocking fee (Full Terms and Conditions are available from the Information Box) and we will arrange for a new part to be sent to you and for the appropriate changes in your bill to be made. We cannot be responsible however for the postage you incur.
- What does "Meets CE EN1078 certification on helmets" mean?
Consultants Europe is a Technical and Legal organisation specialized in the CE mark, CE marking, CE certification and Authorized Representation of products. Consultants Europe is active worldwide and offers a complete range of Technical and Legal services ensuring that products comply to the CE mark, CE marking, CE certifications and CCC mark regulations.
Our experts identify hazards, assess risks, carry out all applicable tests to determine the appropriate measures to meet with CE mark, CE marking, CE certification and CCC mark regulations.
- I have a voucher code, how do I know it had been applied.
We are currently upgrading our system to make this feature a little more obvious but in the meantime, discounts will only appear on the last page before you press the confirmation button. If for some reason it did not work please place your order and afterwards use the Contact Us page to let us know the code you tried to use. Please note that vouchers do expire and have limited availability so please do not be offended if we cannot discount your order.
- Can you ship my order today?
Yes if the item has a despatch time of 0-1 Day we can ship straight away if you order before 3pm.
- I live in Oxted can I pick up my goods?
Finally we are here with our shop in Oxted! Please come and visit us it would be great to see you!
So you have seen what you like online and you want to order and pick it up in store. Well there is an option for that when you checkout on the shipping page. (Please note this options is restricted to Surrey and Kent addresses)
We charge £1.50 handling to cover the transaction and order costs involved.
We will send you an email when you order is ready for collection!
Why do we charge? We have to make money too! Our goods are sold below RRP and often competition is very fierce with some of competitors selling for less then we can buy for. The £1.50 covers the costs involved in processing your order. From card fees, to man power and inbound shipping costs. Often small items contain just a few pence margin and in order to keep selling our whole product range we have to cover the costs. Thank you for your understanding.
- I am servicing a Shimano component and can't find all the bits I need?
If you are working on your Shimano components and need replacement parts and spares, almost all the information you ever need can be found on the Shimano Tech Doc website.
check out the Shimano Tech Docs (click here) website. Either search or browse to locate the required component. (note: part numbers should be typed in the format FC-TX70 not FCTX70. For parts and spares you will need to search by component name or part number. )
Click on the appropriate document link, this will download, or open a PDF. The PDF shows an exploded diagram with a list of all the associated parts and spares.
To find the parts and spares on our site enter the part number into our search box. (note: part numbers should be in the format "Y1E398080" not "Y-1E39 8080".
If you can't find them with us, they are most likely not available in the UK.
- I am servicing my DT Swiss components / wheel and need help!

- Can I claim my VAT back & Channel Islands
Petra Cycles is VAT registered, if you live outside the European Union you do not pay VAT.
EU companies wishing to purchase VAT free need to send us their VAT number to reclaim VAT.
If you live inside the European Union you will be charged 20% VAT
As VAT is calculated on your shipping country then you will be charged according to your goods destination.
Export orders (outside the EU): Please note that you may be charged import duties and we are unable to provide information for each country, we advise that you contact your Customs office to see if duty is payable on your order.
Sales Tax (VAT): Exports are VAT free This means you will receive 20% tax deduction at the point of sale.
Channel Islands: Guernsey, Jersey, Sark, Herm and Alderney are all tax exempt and at checkout will have the VAT removed from their order. For shipping purposes the Channel Islands are treated as UK shipping minus VAT.
- I paid for Special Delivery / Courier why hasn't my order been despatched yet?
In order to get the best daily prices (believe us they do change daily) and to save on storage costs which ultimately saves you money too. We do not store the 35,000 goods we have for sale on our site. 95% of our goods are brought in on a daily basis from various suppliers. Therefore ALL orders are subject to a 1-4 working day despatch time (exact time is indicate on each product).
If you have ordered Special Delivery your order will still be subject to a despatch time.
Unfortunately we are unable to speed up this process as we have to wait for supplies to come in.
If you have ordered items with different despatch times, they are coming from different suppliers and therefore we will despatch once your whole order is ready to go. If you have require Part Despatch please do let us know and we will see what we can do.
- Credit and Debit card transactions.
We accept: Visa, Visa Electron, MasterCard, Maestro, (Switch) and Solo.
All transactions taken by card are free of transaction fees.
Your card is handled through Sage Pay and is transacted and checked with our card provider and bank. We do not store or hold any card details on our system.
During checkout you may be asked to enter a password, known as Visa Verified by Visa, MasterCard Secure Code or 3D Secure.
3D Secure is know a industry standard requirement and must be entered. If you have not signed up for 3D Secure before then you will have the opportunity to do so when you checkout. We ourselves do not handle this process and this is live and direct with your bank.
3D secure offers you greater protection over fraud and is similar to signature or pin number level of security.
- Do you accept PayPal? (why is there a PayPal fee?)
We accept PayPal for all orders, you can checkout with PayPal from the first page or login page of the checkout process.
However, due to the high transaction fees levied on us by PayPal and our discounted prices, there is little room to offer this as a free service. In order to keep our prices low overall, we have been forced to charge 2.9% for PayPal transactions.
This 2.9% goes direct to PayPal and we do not make any money out of it. We simply pass on the cost that would otherwise be built into the price of the goods.
We hope this fee will come down in the future with increased PayPal usage. We regret having to charge the fee but we believe it is a balance of offering services and price.
Debit cards and Credit Cards are still and always will be free to use.
- How do I checkout with PayPal?
Due to technical restrictions which we are working on. PayPal checkout is separate from the card checkout.
To checkout with PayPal, please first ensure you are not logged in. (Click Logout on the top right of the page)
1. Add the items to your basket.
2. From your basket click the checkout button.
3. On the Login screen scroll down and click the yellow button.
Please see above note for PayPal transaction fees.
- Can you give me a quote for...?
If you live in the UK the quickest way to get a quote is to add the items to your basket and then view your basket, this will give you an item total and shipping options available.
If you require multiple units of item over 5 then we can with some goods offer a discount.
If you live outside the UK and need a quote for small orders then please add the items to your basket, then view you basket, you can select your country from the drop down list in on the shipping estimator for a shipping quote.
- Do you accept AMEX?
Sorry to say we are unable to accept AMEX either online, over the phone or in the shop.
- I need help servicing SRAM, Truvativ, Avid or RockShock components.
We are new to these brands and are still in training, we also have very limited resources and regrettably may not be able to deal with these enquires very quickly, at busy times it make take up to 7 days before we can respond.

We have a wonderful shipping estimator on the basket page.
All you need to do is add the items to your basket, then click through to your basket to see all the shipping options, costs and times available to you. Please note all orders are subject to "Despatch Times" regardless of any premium shipping options.
Shipping in the UK is run on a dual price / weight based system.
We always want to offer you the best price.
Shipping by price is a fixed table see "Shipping" page items are sent 2nd class or parcel post to save money
Shipping by weight is based on the average weight of the item in that category. We send everything 1st class.
The purpose is to always get you the best price, 1st class can be cheaper then Super Saver on small expensive items.
- How long does shipping take?
To see the various shipping options times and costs for your basket, just add the items you need to your basket. Click through to the basket page where there is a shipping estimator which will tell you all the shipping times for various services available on your order.
Please note that all orders are subject to a "Despatch Time". To estimate an arrival date just add "Despatch Time" to "Delivery Time".
Bare in mind that times are estimates based on average or slowest scenarios and actual times may be faster.
Top Tip: Order before 10am to shorten your "Despatch Time" by one day.
- Do you have an image for this product?
Sorry to say that if an image is not displayed, we have not been able to source one. There are many thousands of small parts and we simply do not have the resources to shoot and display all items we sell, many manufactures do not supply images either.
Often diagrams can be found on manufactures website, please see our "Technical Help" pages. - Why is 1st class shipping cheaper than Super Saver on my order?
Shipping in the UK is run on a dual, price / weight based system. We always want to offer you the best price.
Shipping by price is called Super Saver it is a fixed table (see below) based on the total value of your basket. Items are sent 2nd class or Parcel Post to save you money.
Shipping by weight, other services i.e 1st class and Special Delivery are weight based, using the average weight of the item in that category.
The purpose is to always get you the best price, 1st class can be cheaper then Super Saver on small expensive items.
